Years ago, when news papers were the means of getting news to the populace. A young paperboy might have been seen on a street corner yelling out the words "Extra...Extra....Read All About It" as he heralded the top headline of the day.
In Bible days, God used many different means of getting the good news out to the populace of our world, neither of which was the paperboy or the newspaper. Listed in Hebrews 1, God tells us by way of the Holy Spirit and the human penmen, the methods he used in times past to speak to mankind. He used prophets to speak to the fathers of Israel and then He would use His Son, Jesus Christ, to speak to the Apostles. These New Testament Apostles would record the very words spoken and works accomplished by the Lord Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit of God would bring the words and works of Jesus Christ to their remembrance for the purpose of recording the good news of who Jesus Christ was and why he came to earth.
They would record that Jesus Christ came "to seek and to save that which was lost." That Jesus Christ came as "a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness." That Jesus Christ came "that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
Have you heard? Jesus Christ came to save you and me from the penalty of sin. You and I were lost and in need of salvation and Jesus came as a light in this dark world. Before I was saved, I wandered in the darkness of this world and had no peace about life or about what would happen when this life was over. But when I heard the good news that Jesus Christ came to earth to pay for my sin debt and to shine a light on my need of salvation, my life had new meaning after I by faith received him as my personal saviour. I finally had life and I had it more abundantly than I could have imagined. Not that I have amassed wealth or even great health...but I have a home in heaven awaiting me and a new body to replace this broken down shell that houses my soul and spirit today. I have joy and peace that an unsaved man can not comprehend, even in the darkest storms of life there is joy and peace.
